Lava Bike Tours provide bike tours in the Ruhengeri region(Musanze) of Rwanda. Offering several different bike adventures around the country. The main activity that Lava Bike Tours provide is called The Village Ride. As the name suggests, our ride takes our clients through this region’s breathtaking scenery as they make their way to their destination of one of the local communities. On arrival, as well as along the way, they will enjoy Rwandan culture and experience the daily life of the people. They will have the opportunity to financially support these local communities through purchases from local businesses that they come across on their ride.



1 Day The twin lakes biking

These are beautiful lakes located at the base of Mountain Muhabura and close to the border with Uganda. Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo are surrounded by steep hills and large waterfalls with a backdrop of the Virunga volcanic mountains. Burera and Ruhondo are separated by a 1km wide strip of land. Water flows from Lake Burera to Lake Ruhondo. Lake Ruhondo and Lake Burera have a combined area surface of 2800 hectare. this a day trip of 34 km from Musanze(ruhengeri) town PS: Boat ride in Ruhondo to reach at the resort plus lunch, bike hire and guiding fees it’s included.

2 Days Twin lakes overnight biking

This 2 days Twin lakes overnight biking tour and boat ride will give more time and experience of the Northern Province by enjoying beautiful island in lake while on the boat and bird watching around the lake. and lunch served at a nice peninsula at the volcanoes views same place of your overnight.

Volcanoes belt biking

this a village ride along the volcanoes national park were you have views of 5 peaks of the volcanoes among 8 volcanoes which form Virunga massive the home of mountain gorilla during your cycle in the area with local people it gives you a unique understanding of their daily life and culture experience. The ride start from musanze the first uphill about 1200 meters but when back its only downhill and flat road.

Full Congo Nile Trail cycle

The Congo Nile Trail is a trail along Lake Kivu that extends from Rubavu, continues through Rutsiro via the Karongi, Nyamasheke districts and ends in Rusizi District. The trail is 215 km in total going through beautiful landscapes of rolling hills and great sights of beautiful waters of Lake Kivu. The entire trek can be completed in 5 days, cyclists can choose to take on only sections of the trail hence do not have to cycle the entire trail. The trail is well-marked and has several stopovers of villages for camping, shops and guesthouses for those who prefer this. The trail primarily follows rocky, dirt roads and new termac road from kibuye(karongi)that wind up and around the numerous hills between Gisenyi via Kamembe. to Rusizi Do not expect a pleasant rural single track – you will be sharing the road with motorcycle traffic and the occasional beer delivery trucks or minibus. There are a few long climbs, you will be ascending and descending between intervals of 1450 and 1800 meters.

3 Days Cycle half CONGO NILE TRAIL

GISENYI, VIA BUMBA TO KIBUYE (KARONGITOWN) PATH ONE Follow the world-famous Congo Nile Trail which follows the divide between the vast Nile river water basin and the Congo River water basin. The route takes you along the Lake Kivu from Rubavu (formerly Gisenyi), to Karongi (formerly Kibuye) the waterfall of cyimbiri through rural settlements in the small fishing village of Nkora This 3 days cycle include your mountain bike,helmet,and water together with an English or French speaking cyclist guide, your soft drinks, snakes and picnic lunch while cycling are included together with the guest house on days 1,2 except day 3 overnight your evening meal on day 1,2 are also included. the this ride does need to be a professional cyclist just being fit and the second is day is the hardest and most beautiful days. Distance 120km.

1 DAY TRIP CONGO NILE CYCLE TRAIL

this a day trip of 30 kms distance starting from gisenyi to a small fishing village of nkora. mostly known for its (samaza)small fish and have your own local delicious lunch only cooked for you then take boar back to gisenyi. the tours is start with uphill of 1200 alt but end with a down hill and is allong the lake. the for those who might not have time to cycle the whole trail of 5 days.or the half of 3 days this the one we can recommend you plus boat ride back to gisenyi.

TWIN LAKES HIKING

This the hike and village walk from musanze town were we work along mpenge and mukungwa river with a various water falls and water spring of mpenge river before toward the lakes when reach at the lake we cross the lake by boat enjoy various birds watching. The hike is about 1200 meters when coming back we use car. Lunch will be served at the beautiful Ruhondo resort which we take after crossing the lake with a canoe. Fresh Rwandan coffee is available and you can choose to have fresh fish from the lake

TWIN LAKES HIKING

RIDE RWANDA, KIGALI TO MUSANZE VIA KINIHIRA DAY 1 – KIGALI TO KINIHIRA Cycling Distance - 50 kms Surfaces - Dirt roads Your guides will meet you at your hotel in Kigali early in the morning. You will be introduced to your mountain bikes and guided out of the city, up Mount Jali that leads to a ridge that will characterize much of your day’s ride. You will pedal through remote villages, always on red dirt roads, until you stop for a picnic lunch. After lunch on the road you descend into tea plantations and towards the end of the day it’s one final climb up to Kinihira, home to Sorwathe one of Rwanda’s oldest tea estates. There you will have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 2 –KINIHIRA TO RUHENGERI (MUSANZE) Cycling Distance - 70 kms Surfaces - Dirt roads & tarmac back-roads It’s back in the saddle for a fantastic descent into tea plantations before a steady ascent to the shores of the Twin Lakes, Burera and Ruhondo. With heavily cultivated terraced hillsides and plenty of attention from curious villagers, you should feel apretty amazing sense of adventure. This is a remote part of Rwanda that very few tourists get to see.

Biking is one of the best popular things here to our locals us most of them use bikes to transport their crops to the market which is the cheapest way this village ride gives you the opportunity to go around Lake MUTANDA one of the biggest lake in the region where it's our last stopover from the hotel and our starting point back to the hotel after chilling out to the beach enjoying the calm great views of islands and sounds of numerous birds around, it's also gives you a unique understanding of the locals culture by interacting with them during your ride. The route leads you through villages around local farm stead's and MATOOKE (banana) fields, absorbing history and soaking in UGANDA western region’s natural beauty – all free on a bike! the ride start from your accommodation. it's take 5 hour it can be more or less according to your level of fitness. us we do stops in the village to take pictures and get same explanations from your guide about what seeing around you. the cheapest way this village ride gives you the opportunity to go around Lake Mutanda one of the biggest lake in the region, it's also gives you a unique understanding of the locals culture by interacting with them during your ride. Safety


As part of the service provided to clients, we are mindful that our client’s safety is paramount. Bikes are serviced on a regular basis and all repairs completed as required. Helmets are provided to all riders. A first aid kit is carried at all times and all guides are instructed on its use. A second guide is also provided on a ride where group size or group demographics require this to ensure the safety of the ride for all. All rides commence with a safety briefing to the group. Through all of these undertakings we strive to achieve an enjoyable and rewarding tour for all involved.

As Lava Bike Tours expands its operations, it is our aim to provide employment to local youth. Through this employment, our employees with be provided with training in all the necessary skills to provide a first class experience for clients. They will gain experience within the ever growing tourism industry of the region. They will also have an opportunity to enhance their communication skills, And most importantly, they will have access to an income by which they can support both themselves and their families.
