Congo Nile Trail
Arguably one of Rwanda’s best, or at least best known, bike routes, the Congo-Nile trail traverses the length of Lake Kivu along Rwanda’s Western border. Each day of this epic trip is more spectacular than the last and offers something different. The Congo Nile is best done with off-road biking but can also be combined with hiking, kayaking, and road biking.
Slice of Rwanda
A route exclusively developed by Lava Bike Tours, this trip takes you from the high elevation around Volcanoes National Park, along the twin lakes and into Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali. Starting in Musanze (previously Ruhengeri) this three-day trip is a fantastic way to see Rwanda’s Northern Province. Highlights include overnight stays on a lake and at a tea plantation.

Twin Lakes Multi-Day
This out-and-back ride showcases some of the best views in Northern Rwanda. Starting in Musanze (previously Ruhengeri) you’ll be treated to views of Rwanda’s spectacular volcanoes as you head toward Lake Ruhondo. After a relaxing overnight on a peninsular in the middle of the lake, the next day heads back to Musanze via the second of the twin lakes, Lake Burera. This ride is the perfect way to explore the Twin Lakes area.

The Village Ride
Lava Bike Tours’ classic ride. The Villages Ride can be customized to your skill level and timeframe and aims to help you get out into the villages of Rwanda by bike for an authentic and unforgettable adventure. Join us to see why Rwanda is a hidden cycling gem.
Twin Lakes Day Ride
A great way to see villages, volcanoes, and Lake Ruhondo. This ride starts in Musanze (previously Ruhengeri) with 4km uphill on a tarmac road before turning off-road to progress through villages with views of the lakes to one side, and volcanoes to the other. Eventually descending to the lake, we take a 30-minute boat ride out to the middle of Lake Ruhondo for lunch at Ruhondo Beach Resort. After another boat ride back before making our way back to Musanze to end the ride. This ride can be customized based on timeframe and ability level.
Volcano Belt Ride
The best way to see Rwanda’s famous volcanoes from afar. The Volcano Belt Ride takes you above Musanze (previously Ruhengeri) below Volcanoes National Park. With good weather, all of Rwanda’s five volcanoes will be visible as well as views of Lake Ruhondo and Burera.
